FAQ's & Testimonials
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Does acupuncture hurt? -Not so much! Usually you don’t feel anything, sometimes you might feel something like a mosquito bite or a tiny shot of electricity down the channel that goes away instantaneously. Once the needles are in, you may feel a profound state of relaxation, or heaviness, or floating sensations. You may also feel movement where there are no needles. This is obstruction and/or energy being moved and is a good thing!
Do you re-use acupuncture needles? -NO. Each needles is packaged sterile and used once and only once.
How big are the needles? -Not near as big as a hypodermic, (the kind the doctor uses). Acupuncture needles are very small, and you can fit approximately 20 acupuncture needles into on hypodermic needle.
How far do they go in? -It depends on where the point is located. Most are only about a half an inch to an inch.
Can I give blood after getting acupuncture? -YES! I am registered with the Red Cross so you may freely give blood.
How long do I have to get acupuncture before feeling relief? -It all depends on the condition being treated. Some people feel relief after one treatment, some need a few, more chronic conditions may require a longer period of treatments. It is best to discuss this individually with your acupuncturist. Most of acupuncture patients continue treatments once a month, what we like to call "tune ups", to maintain balance and optimal health.
What does L.Ac. mean? -Licensed Acupuncturist. It is very important for your own safety to see a Licensed acupuncturist. Some states have different requirements for graduation. I graduated from Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California. California requires the most academic hours and the most intern training hours than any other state to be able to graduate.
What does Dipl.Ac. mean? -Diplomat of Acupuncture. This is a designation of certification from the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). This means the Acupuncturist is REQUIRED to complete a certain number of CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS to remain Nationally certified. National certification does not mean the Acupuncturist is licensed to practice in any state. The State of Hawaii does not require continuing education hours so it is extremely important to find an Acupuncturist that is Nationally certified. The State of Hawaii also doesn't require acupuncturists to carry malpractice insurance...
What is Community Style Acupuncture? -That is where you sit with a group of people all receiving acupuncture at the same time, at a discounted price. What do I think about it? Quality vs. Quantity. If you need help for something chronic or very specific, or many other reasons, a one-on-one individual private session will always be more productive. It gives the patient and acupuncturist time to get to know each other, develop a rapport and uncover our many layers (to get to the root of the problem) You deserve the full experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine bringing you to optimal health. (And you may end up spending less money in the long run!)
TESTIMONIALS:
"I met Laura in 2010, when I was in Hospice with cancer, I was told I had a short time to live. Laura said, "no one gets to tell you when you're going to die" and then came to my house twice a week and gave me acupuncture and reiki. It helped me with the pain and I was able to take 2/3 less morphine than prescribed. Laura's acupuncture also helped with other side effects of the medication. I have been getting acupuncture for more than 20 years and I am grateful I was introduced to Laura. So far I have lived 6 years past my expiration date!"
Michele G. - Pahoa, Hawaii
"My pcp and chiropractor recently dumped the insurance company that also provided acupuncture. While talking with my son to decide what I should do, he stated that he has never seen me in better condition, my pain has improved, my energy has improved, my immunity is stronger, my complexion looks healthier...we decided it was best to stay with Laura and acupuncture."
Denise - Hilo, Hawaii

“I miss your treatments, as I haven’t been back since you left. Now for the testimonial:
I credit you with helping my shoulder feel so much better now. Your acupuncture sessions were informative and painless. Besides helping my shoulder, I felt better, mentally, too. You seemed to know my limits, and always asked my permission, if you felt a different type of treatment might be beneficial. And the herbal remedy & treatment helped me get through my cold faster than usual! I’ll look you up on my next trip to Hawaii”
